Sculpture
I attended the City College of New York, 1975 - 1978. I majored in English and minored in secondary education with an emphasis on Black History. I graduated in three years with a Bachelor of Science degree. I took a sculpture class as one of my electives in my last year of study.
”The professor gave us a variety of stones to choose from to create our sculptures. The first was a bin full of soap stones. We were free to create whatever we wanted. I created what I called an abstract, because I didn’t have an idea of the outcome. The second was a bin full of alabaster stones. We were instructed to choose a stone that we could see a part of the anatomy that we could sculpt. I saw a stone that looked like the lower torso of the female body. I bought a cube of Tibbits wood crafted by a local woodsman and had a steel rod inserted in the bottom of the torso and attached to the wood cube. I later gifted my daughter and son-in-law with the sculpture for their house warming in Washington, DC.
